What You Should Know
We're not the only web-based scanning company and you may have
found someone local - so why choose us? What makes us different from
the rest? Why does a large percentage of our business come from repeat
customers?
Before you order scanning services from us or anyone else, we
suggest that you look for the following features when shopping for the
best quality and value:
- Insist on TIFF & JPEG file scanning output
- Insist on manual hand-fed scanning
- Insist on free cropping and rotating
- Insist that your scanning be done in
the US
The above features are all standard at Gemega
Imaging. Read on to see why these are important features to consider.
TIFF Files
We don't charge more for TIFF file scanning
output. TIFF files contain all of the image data
captured during the scan. Nothing is discarded, meaning you have
access to all of the original image data for retouching, resizing, and
making photo-quality prints. TIFF is an excellent format for image
preservation and archiving.
JPEG files are compressed to create a much smaller file, but there
is a downside that you should be aware of. When the image is
compressed, image data is lost forever and every time the image is
edited and saved, more original image data is lost. JPEG is great for
emailing and transporting images over the Web, TV viewing, and
PowerPoint presentations, but it is not a good format for professional
applications, image editing, and image preservation and archiving.
Manual Scanning
We don't charge more for exposure corrections. Every
photo is scanned individually by hand, previewed,
analyzed, and manually corrected until the best possible image is
acquired. Corrections are made to restore color balance, color
saturation, and brightness and contrast.
These results can only be achieved by hand
where the operator's experience makes a big difference when making
exposure and color corrections. For that reason, we don't let the
scanner with its auto-correction features
do all the work. It's not uncommon that our scans look even better
than the original.
Cropping and Rotating
We don't charge more for Cropping and
Rotating. Even though cropping
takes some extra time, it is minimal compared to all of the other
adjustments we make, so we don't charge more to do it. You should
never have to pay extra for cropping and rotating.
All Scanning is Done in the US
Do you really want your precious memories
shipped overseas for processing? Some of our competitors offer
scanning at prices that are simply too good to be true. To do that,
they are probably outsourcing their work overseas.
Last Word
We're confident that when you learn what you
should expect from any scanning service, our services stack up pretty
well and our level of quality is unsurpassed. But don't
take our word for it. Read the testimonials or do a little research.
There are plenty of resources on the Web. Here's
one,
if you want a good Scanning 101 crash course.
