Professional Slide, Film, & Photo Scanning
Why Digitize?
Your cherished moments captured on film have
deteriorated over time and continue to do so with each passing day.
We’ve all seen old photographs with faded and odd looking colors. The
same thing is happening to the slides and negatives you have stored in
a closet somewhere.
Once your slides, negatives, and photos are digitized and stored on a CD or DVD,
they are just as versatile as the digital images you take with a
digital camera. And, you'll have the added convenience to view them on
a home computer or TV, email them to family and friends, upload
them to your favorite photo sharing service, create printed photo
books, or print them yourself.
Your Digital Images Are Organized the Way You Want
We normally place your TIFF files in a folder
named TIFF and your JPEG files in a folder named JPEG. If you want to
organize your scans differently, we’ll do that at no extra charge. We
use the highest quality CD and DVD media to store your digitized
images. Order extra copies for family and friends or make extra copies
yourself for safe-keeping.
Create TV-Ready Digital Slide Show with Our Photo CD
Order a low-cost Photo CD ($6.00) with your order or create your own Photo CDs to view your scans on a TV with
most DVD players. Thumbnail presentation and slide show is dependent
on your particular DVD model. To see if you DVD player is capable of
displaying JPEG images click
here.

Why Choose Us?
There are several web-based scanning companies
out there - so why choose us? What makes us different from the rest?
Why does a large percentage of our business come from repeat
customers?
Your Satisfaction Is Guaranteed
Each photograph you take is unique, with its own
range of colors, brightness, and contrast
characteristics. For that reason, we don't use a bulk loader,
press go, and let a scanner with a one-size-fits-all setup and
auto-correction features do all the work. Every slide, negative, and
photo is
scanned individually by hand, previewed, analyzed, and manually
corrected until the best possible image is acquired.
When your scanning is finished, we send you
an email with a secure web link so you can view your scanned images in your
own private Preview Gallery using your web browser. Your satisfaction is guaranteed because we won't
create the CD or DVD for shipping until you've had a chance to review
the scans and are pleased with the results.
Get A Second Opinion
If you want to share your images with family and
friends, forward the link(s) we email to you. Click

Other Benefits We Provide At No Charge
Before you order scanning services from us or
anyone else, we
suggest that you look for the following features when shopping for the
best quality and value:
- Insist on TIFF & JPEG file scanning output
- Insist on Digital ICE and Digital ICE
- Insist on manual hand-fed scanning
- Insist on cropping and rotating
- Insist that your scanning be done in the US
The above features are all standard at Gemega
Imaging. Below is a brief explanation why these are important features
to consider.
TIFF Files
We don't charge more for TIFF file scanning
output. TIFF files contain all of the image data
captured during the scan. Nothing is discarded, meaning you have
access to all of the original image data for retouching, resizing, and
making photo-quality prints. For that reason, TIFF is an excellent format for image
preservation and archiving.
JPEG files are compressed to create a much
smaller file, but there is a downside that you should be aware
of. When the image is compressed, image data is lost forever and every time the image
is edited and saved, more original image data is lost. JPEG is great
for emailing and transporting images over the Web, TV viewing, and
PowerPoint presentations, but it is not a
good format for professional applications, image editing, and image preservation and archiving.
Digital ICE and Digital ICE4
We don't charge more for Digital ICE or Digital ICE4 35mm
processing. We do a raw scan for those customers who want to edit and retouch the
scanned images
themselves, but for the majority of our customers, Digital ICE and Digital
ICE are good options to choose if you want to restore slides or
negatives to their original condition or correct the exposure on newer
slides or negatives. See the sidebar for a brief
explanation or See our
Image Enhancements page for an
illustration of what these options can do.
Manual Scanning
We don't charge more for exposure corrections. Every
slide, negative, and photo is scanned individually by hand, previewed,
analyzed, and manually corrected until the best possible image is
acquired. Corrections are made to restore color balance, color
saturation, brightness and contrast, and if you choose ICE or ICE, we
attempt to remove any remaining dust and scratches
ICE misses.
These results can only be achieved by hand
where the operator's experience makes a big difference when making
exposure and color corrections. For that reason, we don't use a bulk slide
loader, press go, and let a machine with its auto-correction features
do all the work. It's not uncommon that our scans look even better
than the original.
Cropping and Rotating
We don't charge more for Cropping and
Rotating. Even though cropping and rotating takes some extra time,
it is minimal compared to all of the other corrections we make, so we
don't charge more to do it. You should never have to pay extra for
cropping and rotating. Because TIFF files are used for printing,
editing, and archiving purposes, we don't rotate these files unless
you request it.
All Scanning is Done in the US
Do you really want your precious memories
shipped overseas for processing? Some of our competitors offer
scanning at prices that are simply too good to be true. To do that,
they are probably outsourcing their work overseas.
Last Word
We're confident that when you learn what you
should expect from any scanning service, our services stack up pretty
well and our level of quality is unsurpassed. But don't take our word for it.
